What is VelaShape Treatment For?

Anti-Cellulite Machine VelaShape is a non-surgical anti-cellulite and fat reducing body-contouring treatment. The machine obtained FDA clearance for cellulite reduction  in August 2007. A combination of 4 simultaneous impacts: Bi-Polar Radiofrequency (RF) wave and Infrared Light energy followed by Vacuum and Mechanical massage makes VelaShape a powerful body reshaping treatment.

The heat of Bi-Polar Radiofrequency (RF) wave and energy of Infrared Light breaks the walls of fat cells and increases the oxygen diffusion in the deep layers of fat tissue. Added power of vacuum and roller massage helps to smooth out the surface of the skin; enforces cells metabolism and lymphatic drainage. The treatment is designed for reduction of cellulite appearance and improvement in body shape. Unlike VelaSmoothe (also using Syneron’s elos™ technology) VelaShape is effective for tightening, toning and firming skin.

4-5 sessions of VelaShape performed ones a week are required to see the first results; some practitioners recommend up to 12 sessions with 1 week interval. One VelaShape session lasts 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the treated area. There is no downtime and patients can get back to normal activity right away.

VelaShape Results and Side Effects

The results significantly vary from patient to patient and depend on many factors, including fat cells density. The clinical studies report thigh and abdomen circumferential reduction up to 1-inch average and hip circumference reduction up to 1.5 inch. VelaShape promises gradual improvement in cellulite appearance with the first results becoming noticeable after 4 sessions.

Only around 35% of patients consider the procedure worth the money and time spent. Others see minimal improvements and fast (less than 6 months) return to the initial pre-treatment shape. It’s known to work for cellulite, but is not as good for size reduction.

Some patients experience redness and swelling for few hours after treatment. Many patients report the procedure to be extremely painful with substantial bruising and burned skin areas. No significant Velashape side effects have been reported.

As any non-invasive procedure VelaShape offers a temporary solution, with results promised to last between 6 to 12 months. However, for the longevity of the results you will need maintenance treatments done once every 4 to 6 weeks.

VelaShape Cost

The price of VelaShape treatment depends on your location, number and size of treated areas and the clinic. The lowest cost starts from around $100 per session. Don’t fall for a package deal before you try at least 1 procedure and make sure you can tolerate it. If your expectations are realistic, the price is reasonable and the level of discomfort is tolerable, the procedure might work well for you.

How to Choose VelaShape vs. VelaSmooth

Both treatments are based on Infrared light energy, Bi-Polar Radio Frequency waves (RF), mechanical roller and vacuum suction massages to impact the deep superficial layers of fat tissue, which contribute to cellulite formation. VelaSmooth is an earlier generation of cellulite treatment machines (FDA approved in 2005). VelaShape uses Vela Smooth technology with increased power level, reduced treatment time and number of procedures.

To achieve desired results Vela Smooth requires 2 treatments a week 45 to 60 minutes each for up to 8 weeks. In most cases the results start showing up after 5 or 6 sessions. Both treatments deliver temporary results and require maintenance treatments afterwards.

Although both treatments offer the same benefits, there is a slight difference between the 2 systems. Velasmooth mainly targets mild to moderate cellulite to break up fatty tissue and is not very effective for toning and tightening loose skin and reversing skin stretching.

Some people may be better candidates for ValaShape over VelaSmooth. VelaShape is a better option for those who have lost a significant amount of weight (from liposuction, diet, exercising, etc.) and want to target cellulite and tone stretched skin. VelaSmooth is less of a body shaping and tightening treatment. VelaSmooth is limited to treating symptoms of cellulite.

How to Choose VelaShape or SmartLipo

The two procedures are completely different.  VelaShape targets cellulite, while Smart Lipo (as any other type of liposuction, including Lipotheme, Vaser or traditional liposuction) targets fat removal, which is not the same. To choose between these 2 procedures you have to decide what bothers you most: cellulite or fat deposits.

Liposuction extracts fat from the areas deep beneath the skin. Cellulite resides in the connective tissue directly underneath the skin, closer to the surface.  Smart Lipo does not remove fat from the areas where cellulite lies. At the same time liposuction may remove the cushion of fat from just underneath the cellulite affected areas, which might actually worsen the appearance of cellulite.

VelaShape vs. Endermology

Endermologie machines developed by LPG represent the oldest generation of massagers for cellulite and fat reduction. The French weight loss machine Endermologie uses a special two-roller vacuum head to mechanically roll the skin and stimulate skin cells. It increases blood circulation to problem areas, releases toxins and eliminates fatty deposits. The treatment promotes lymphatic drainage, shrinks fat cells and enforces production of collagen and elastin resulting in healthier looking skin.

Endermology works with deep tissue vacuum massage while Velashape in addition to massage utilizes the power of infrared light and radio frequency energy.  Therefore, the results with Velashape (compared to Endermology) can be obtained faster with fewer treatments.  However, Endermology may be a better and safer solution for patients with particular medical conditions. Endermologie also is the cheapest cellulite treatment for a series.
